Incredibly minor imperfections on an otherwise amazing looking example. Superb centering and general color tone of the card that has stayed true over time.
The white rainbow shape by his elbow is unfortunate and difficult to look past/ not notice... Would take this copy over mine all day every day.
A Color ( B & W ) A+ Registration A+ Cut/ Centering note: in 1939 & 1940 Play Ball (Bowman) used card stock paper that tones overtime. Natural paper age toning can range from cream & drag gray (most 1939s) to bronze (common w/ 1940s). Very few 1939 and 1940 Play Balls cards are naturally bright white today. Bowman also seemed to skimped w/ the blank ink so expert to see many card fronts w/ images that appear washed out.
That little feather by the elbow just kills me. Gorgeous card!
Beautiful copy, it is a little dim and the small surface issue by his arm. Great card.
I really donβt mind the sepia toning here given how sharp this card is.
overall discoloration but the card shows well and the centering is nice
Good lord the centering on this card. I'd buy this in a heartbeat. That small imperfection in the black background is the only noticeable imperfection in a card that the traditional system says is in the bottom half (LOL). The corner wear does not bug my eye one bit, as the even framing immediately draws my eye inward to the central subject.

If ever bought one of these, I would want it to be this one.
