1909 American Caramel Joe Jackson

This card is nuts and I want to buy it. The front is so good that the back issue doesn't bother me.

Slight OC LTR and color blot distracts from an otherwise remarkable copy for the grade and a 116-year old copy.

Man, the back really crushed the grade on this one. Luckily, Eye Appeal Inc was born and many will appreciate how strong of a card this is.

Glue and paper loss on back, but the front looks great. Slight centering shift and surface imperfections but a solid example overall.

The colors pop and the front is amazing and the centering is nice unfortunately the back conditions bring the overall grade down

Believe it or not, a value driver here is how well his lipstick is applied. And this wasn't done by some beauty school dropout. This might be the best registration I've seen one one. Great centering. It's really just the bubble to the left of his face that halts it from god tier. I might regret that comment later... seeing as Joe is holding Black Betsy here.

Wow! What an absolute stunner. I’ve always loved the combo of the bright red lips on this card and that “what’s up with his nose?” question it puts in your head. Slightly imperfect registration is the only issue (they all have the fisheye to the left of his shoulder) on the front. That little red mark on the inner left border doesn’t bother me at all. This is a card where as a reviewer you are tempted to grade it on a curve because it's rarely this nice. I'm giving front an A+ and reverse an D- for a final grade of A-. Flip it over, though, and it’s a different story — significant staining and paper loss on the back. Not everyone puts the same weight on the back as the front — it’s a personal thing. But for me, I’m going 12.5% reverse.

Back issues be damned. When it looks this good from the from you can thank the card gods for that blemish!

Truly an amazing example of this extremely rare Shoeless Joe. In many respects a dream copy for any collector notwithstanding the damage to the reverse, which is forgivable when the text is not badly obscured or irrelevant. Kudos to the owner who located this beauty!
