1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #53

My gut off the bat, first glance, was B+ and a longer look confirmed it. Very good eye appeal right here.

Light print spots in the background. Well-centered.

Good color for this card. Some surface issues with no paper loss. Centering is OC with corner softness.

good looking card with decent but mis-sized borders. this card is famous for uneven sized and minimal borders. the image and colors are good but the background surface wear hold it back.

My fellow collectors will each feel differently about the rounded corners, yet for me the focused face and hands, along with really good surface and relatively clean yellow, it's a winning combination that succeeds in slipping into the highest level of badges. Corner and centering improvements would take it up from there. The centering I would add is off but not in a way that wrecks the party.
